Emerging Leaders Summer Internship 2025- Transportation & Distribution

This year’s Internship program will be Hybrid – students will need to be in our Columbus, OH offices 2-3 days a week.

Who should apply to the Emerging Leaders Internship program?

The Emerging Leaders Internship program is a paid summer internship for students who are currently in their 3rd or 4th year in a bachelor's program that are interested in future full-time opportunities at American Signature. Students who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented in the workforce, including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, and female students are encouraged to apply. We are committed to building the leaders of tomorrow.

 What is the scope of the program?

The program lasts for 9 weeks and includes core functional work, special projects, and leadership development. Our program’s goal is to attract and prepare these students for future opportunities within our organization

 What kinds of training opportunities are available within the program?

Outside of core project work, interns have the opportunity to take advantage of the learning and development programs American Signature offers. We encourage interns to invest in themselves and grow their personal and professional skills. Through our internship program, we offer a professional development series, leadership speaker series, and community building activities to connect with team members all over the company. 

Transportation Intern

The Transportation & Distribution Internship is designed to develop the candidate’s professional skill-set and grant access to real world exposure to all facets of the VCF Distribution Supply Chain.  

 

As the Transportation & Distribution Intern, you will:

Work on a rotational assignment within multiple areas of VCF Team Distribution to assist with:

Corporate Transportation

  • Secure and negotiate pricing for all outbound routing based backhaul opportunities
  • Plan all domestic inbound Shipments utilizing carrier network
  • Analyze network for potential savings opportunities
  • Partner with in-house 3PL to develop new carriers and capacity solutions

VCF Fleet Management

  • Monitor out-bound service and communicate with VCF carrier & store partners
  • Monitor driver “Hours of Service” statistics daily
  • Generate weekly KPI reporting to assess fleet performance
  • Assist in completing weekly payroll and other administrative tasks

 

VCF Distribution Operations

  • Work with management around inbound/outbound load planning
  • Assist supervisors in regards shift labor requirements / scheduling
  • Manage offsite container planning
  • Monitor and forecast all container demurrage/per diem charges
  • Assist with analytics and reporting regarding TZA/pro-track software

 

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Working towards Bachelors degree in Retail,  Business, Merchandising or related field
  • 0 GPA or higher
