The Original Disruptors of the Furniture Business
The Schottenstein family has been in business for nearly 80 years. (You could say retail is part of their DNA.) So, it came as no surprise that after World War II, Jerome Schottenstein looked around the furniture industry and realized there was something missing: furniture offered at a value for America's growing middle class. Nothing could make customers happier, he predicted, than access to the American Dream—and he offered it a fraction of the price.
With that idea, his son, Jay Schottenstein, heralded a new age of disruption in the furniture business. It continued into the 1980s, when he became the first furniture retailer to source inventory from Asia, which helped us beat our competitors with quality and lower prices.
The innovation continues today under Jonathan Schottenstein's leadership, and thanks to a modern approach to the idea of value: style and quality paired with affordability, service versus selling and doubling down on our commitment to an exceptional delivery experience.
