The Future of Furniture Shopping is Here

Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture are two brands with one powerful mission: We believe everyone has the right to a well-furnished life.
We are part of a family-owned business that leads some of America's largest fashion retailers, including Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) and American Eagle Outfitters. We’ve had the great honor to help countless families furnish their homes, where so many memories are born.
Today, we are reinventing ourselves by focusing on a new, eclectic mix of products and a commitment to helping customers express themselves so they can furnish the adventures of their lives.

BUILT TO LAST
From four brothers selling furniture out of the Schottenstein Department store basement to more than 120 stores and 4,000 team members, we’ve come a long way!
FROM NOW TO THEN
2018
We begin a new era by moving away from matching sets and a price-parity focus, instead creating a carefully curated mix of collections. We’re liberating personalization by offering a “made to mix” approach that allows customers to make their own style statement.
2000s
We make another leap in the furniture industry by creating the American Signature brand. Our philosophy is to provide exclusive and affordable products with high manufacturing standards, incredible detail, and style. We double our total number of stores by 2006. In 2009, Jay’s son Jonathan assumes leadership.
1990-Present
In 1992, Jay Schottenstein becomes the next generation of our founding family to lead
the company. We celebrated our 50th Anniversary in 1998, with stores in 13 states and
an expansion of our Columbus, Ohio distribution center to over 1 million square feet.
About Jay Schottenstein
1980s
Our warehouse style showrooms are converted to lifestyle vignettes that display hundreds of complete room settings at once.
1970s
Jerome’s son, Jay, joins the company full time. Our distribution center grows to over 200,000 square feet, giving us the capacity to support our expanding chain of 28 stores in four states.
1962
Jerome acquires Value City Stores in Cleveland, Ohio. At 80,000 square feet, these large stores allow for bulk purchasing and a wider variety of merchandise.
1950
Jerome buys bedding and upholstery manufacturing companies to support the furniture business.
1948
Ephraim's son, Jerome, leads the expansion of furniture sales as a separate business. He acquires furniture from manufacturers and sells it at Schottenstein and other retailers, laying the foundation for Value City Furniture.
1930
Ephraim Schottenstein begins selling living room and kitchen sets out of the basement of Schottenstein department store, quickly creating a prosperous new endeavor.

We’re implementing numerous programs to enhance our sustainability, from construction processes and more efficient HVAC and lighting systems at stores, to recycling, waste reduction, and energy conservation measures across our footprint.
GIVING BACK IS PART OF WHO WE ARE
Giving back is woven into the fabric of our organization. At the corporate level, we focus on various areas where we believe we can make an impact, including women’s issues, health, education, and diversity. We partner with organizations like the following:

We supported the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for the 20th year by raising $1.5 million last year.
Our team members raised $10,000 for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. Here, Michael Broidy, Jay Schottenstein, and Jonathan Schottenstein present the check to Joan Lloyd and Stephanie Robertson.
We support the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center every year with our Swing Classic event, which raises money for different departments within the hospital.
