The primary purpose of the Sr. Manager, IT App Dev position is to lead a team in the planning, estimating, prioritizing and delivering projects, enhancements and maintenance of applications within the Customer-Facing IT portfolio. The Customer-Facing App/Dev team supports multiple teams and applications that touch all ASI storefront, Delivery, Customer Care, Marketing and Media employees.

The primary focus is to transform the digital experience for our employees - through our customer point-of-sale solution, delivery routing app, and web integration efforts. It is critical that this role establish and maintain strong business relationships with both senior and operating level business leaders and be the key interface point of contact with the business. This role is accountable for the strategy, evaluation and implementation of technology solutions that support the enterprise’s employee experience for all customer-facing platforms.   

This individual will develop and mature processes, communicate successes, and instill a continuous improvement culture.

 

As the Senior Manager, Application Development, you will:

Cultivate Team Growth and Continuous Improvement

  • Accountable for administrative management of 5-10 IT professionals
  • Evaluate in real time, current commitments vs. new opportunities and streamlined work shifts
  • Interacts directly with the client and support team members across the IT organization
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining performance of any application issues in accordance with agreed SLA
  • Tasked with understanding all the operating policies and procedures for the enterprise
  • Ensure IT application development process disciplines (solution delivery, project management, work requests, QA, etc.) and standards are established, effectively managed and performed

Manage Business Relationships

  • Establish and maintain strong business relationships with both senior and operating level business leaders
  • Stay abreast of business strategy, goals, objectives and operational performance
  • Educate business partners on roles, responsibilities, processes and deliverables required to ensure effective delivery of new technology solutions
  • Accountable for gaining and maintaining alignment of delivery success criteria with business partners
  • Escalates issues, risks, and changes in a timely, structured manner

Effectively Communicate & Support Change

  • Establishes routine communication cadence with key business stakeholders while owning process breakdowns and associated remediations
  • Act as the point of contact and facilitate the work request demand and prioritization process
  • Engage and ensure effective delivery of business deliverables and tasks with business partners for delivery of technology solutions
  • Provide information and periodic updates to support overall IT performance metrics, monthly project status reporting and quarterly resource planning review
  • Optimizes the business user experience through feedback and lessons learned
  • Translates business objectives clearly and develops team strategies to support

Support Continuous Process Improvement

  • Understand and provide recommendations for improvement of business processes by leveraging existing IT capabilities, identifying improvements to existing IT capabilities and define new strategic IT capabilities
  • Identifies processes gaps and builds capabilities to grow, transform and ultimately optimize team
  • Be a Thought Partner (i.e., engage with Business Owners/Business Process Development)
  • Responsible for escalating, assisting and follow-through on resolution of issues related to delivery of technology solutions
  • Reports on metrics, service levels, and KPIs to illustrate continuous improvement
  • Accountable for identifying needs, securing commitments and monitoring progress of deliverables from internal and external service provider teams
  • Accountable for ensuring technology solutions comply with architectural standards

Demonstrate Exceptional Leadership

  • Decision making responsibility within the discipline and escalates any issues which cannot be resolved to the Senior Director Application Development
  • Define, prioritize, allocate resources, track and provide status reporting of work assignments
  • Coaches, trains, while explaining the process to team and allows then to illustrate proper behaviors
  • Hires a high-caliber team that delivers maximum results

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years application development team management
  • 5+ years in retail industry experience
  • Understanding of AS/400 is a plus 
  • Strong fundamental understanding of waterfall software development life cycle
  • Comfortable interfacing with all levels of leadership/executives
  • Ability to present complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, to audiences at various levels and understandings
  • Track record of servant leadership; serving others and putting team goals first
  • Proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
  • Adaptability / flexibility to changing market forces and shifting priorities
  • Experience with establishing and reporting on project and service level metrics
  • Proven team leadership skills with resource planning, delegating, estimating, prioritizing work and team development
  • Proven ability to maximize the potential of employees via coaching and focused development
